Snowball Derby Preview

Just two years ago Mitch Cobb traveled to Pensacola, Florida to see what Super Late Model racing was all about.  Mitch had never been to an asphalt late model race before and picked the 2006 Snowball Derby to get his first glance of what would become his future.  Not knowing a single person in the race or grandstands, Mitch wandered around Five Flags Speedway in awe of the spectacle that is the biggest short track race in the world.  He came away impressed and set a goal for himself to return one day with a chance to race for the win in the Snowball Derby.  That chance has now become a reality.

Mitch in his #94 Ford Fusion has battle scars from his 2008 super late model rookie season that say he is ready to take on the challenge of the Snowball Derby.  He was a regular for all the Blizzard Series races at Five Flags Speedway this season, finishing 3rd in the championship with a best finish of 2nd place at the last race of the season and a pole-position the race before.

Mitch comes to Pensacola after two strong performances in the Winchester 400 and the All-American 400 in Nashville, where he broke the Super Late Model CRA track record.  Although the 300 laps that make up the Snowball Derby is three times the length of race Mitch has completed at Five Flags Speedway, he is eager and ready for the challenge.  He will be one of 61 Super Late Model drivers attempting to get into the field of 38 starters and compete for the victory.

"I can't wait.  This is the biggest race I have ever been involved with and I am well aware of the prestige and history that accompanies the Snowball Derby."  Said Mitch on Tuesday when arriving at the racetrack.

"Pensacola has been good to me.  I like the track, the old surface, and the fans really understand short track racing here in Pensacola."

Practice kicks off on Thursday, while pole qualifying is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Friday night.  The Snowball Derby will begin on Sunday at 2 PM and is expected to be witnessed by 30,000 spectators over the weekend.  Radio and local TV coverage will be covering the event throughout the weekend for more information please go to www.snowballderby.com or www.fiveflagsspeedway.com.

Mitch Cobb and Mitch Cobb Racing is supported for the Snowball Derby by Southern Waters Outfitters, Thunder on the Gulf, Charter Boat Intimidator, Charter Boat Necessity, and the Marine Group.
